Telerik, a provider of software development solutions for .NET, web, and mobile, including RadControls for Windows 8, announced Telerik Virtual Accelerator for Windows 8, a three-month accelerator program for early-stage startups focused on building Windows 8 apps.

Telerik’s Virtual Accelerator for Windows 8 program is a competition that gives Windows 8 software development startups the opportunity to pitch their Windows 8 application prototypes to a panel of judges, who will select one winner. The winning entry will receive a $30,000 investment from Telerik, a one-week boot camp in Hong Kong to participate in the AcceleratorHK program, and three months of virtual mentorship by Paul Orlando, AcceleratorHK director and TechCrunch Disrupt NY 2012 Hackathon winner. There will also be a Community Choice winner, voted on by the developer community at large.

Per Telerik’s published selection criteria for the Virtual Accelerator contest, startup teams need at least one technical and one non-technical co-founder. Telerik advises potential entrants that “we are biased toward startups with a minimum of two and up to four people participating in the accelerator; strong technical, design and business skills; those who have made some progress on their concept, prototype or existing service; and those who show us they’re coachable and open-minded.”

To be considered for the accelerator program, led by AcceleratorHK, a software development startup needs to submit an entry describing their Windows 8 application prototype to Telerik between January 31, 2013 and March 15, 2013. Telerik will announce five finalists on April 1, 2013; the winner will be selected from those finalists and announced on April 15, 2013. You can learn more about the contest and submit an entry at the Telerik Virtual Accelerator for Windows 8 page.
